Today the Disney Parks Blog posted some great images of prints, design, and new merchandise celebrating Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s 20th Anniversary.

Opening on April 22, 1998, the new Animal Kingdom Park was called “a new species of theme park” and 20 years later it is still going strong, entertaining, preserving and educating.

For the anniversary, designers drew inspiration from the park’s icon “The Tree of Life” and the animals carved on it.

The design team used earth tones and the animals from the tree and other attractions, like the bansees from Pandora- The World of Avatar and the Boabab tree from the Kilimanjaro Safaris, as inspiration. The team drew more than 50 stylized animals and graphics for an “artwork style guide” that the merchandise designers used to create the new pieces.

On select pieces the designers have hidden “surprise elements” like ants for guests to discover.

I’m really loving the Alex and Ani Bracelet!

If you are interested in purchasing some of these pieces the Island Mercantile at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the headquarters for the 20th Anniversary items, but some items can be found throughout the park or on Shop Disney Parks.
