Yesterday, many Disneyland fans visited Disney California Adventure to say “good-bye” to Paradise Pier. The pier is being redesigned into the new Pixar Pier, and will be opening sometime in summer 2018. We aren’t sure exactly when it will open, but we know it’s sometime during the Pixar Fest that will be beginning April 13 .

Getting Rid of the “Golden 20’s”

Paradise Pier opened on Feb. 8, 2001 and was modeled after a 1920’s amusement park. This section of the park boasts such rides as: California Screamin’ and Mickey’s Fun Wheel, as well as Ariel’s Grotto (removed from Walt Disney World in 2008,) Games of the Boardwalk and the Cove Bar area.

    The Pixar Take-Over

Yesterday was the last day the Paradise Pier area would be open before the refurbishment. It will be redone as different “areas” representing various Pixar films. For example the area around California Screamin’ will be re-themed for the Incredibles as the Incredicoaster. With Incredibles 2 coming out this year, the timing makes perfect sense.

Mickey’s Fun Wheel will have different pairs of Pixar characters added to the ride’s gondola cars. The Games of the Boardwalk will have midway games inspired by A Bug’s Life, Wall-E, and La Luna. Ariel’s Grotto and the Cove Bar have “uncertainty” listed as their re-opening dates. We are not yet sure what changes are being made with those areas yet, but we will let you know when we hear more.

I do have some good news. Not everything in that area is closing down

    These attractions are still open:

    • Ariel’s Undersea Adventure
    • Goofy’s Sky School
    • Golden Zephyr
    • Jumping Jellyfish
    • King Triton Carousel
    • Silly Symphony Swings
    • Toy Story Midway Mania

We at least have those until the new Pixar Pier opens.

Have you visited Paradise Pier? What do you think of the plans for Pixar Pier? Comment and let us know!
